Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

With beginning students, and even with advanced students, it is important to first agree on a common vocabulary, and asses the level of fluidity in reading musical notation. Next are some basic written exercises to correlate notation and playing in the mind of the student. This initial theoretical tie-in allows for a more substantial expansion in understanding in the long term, as well as a strong basis for the development of one's improvisational capacity. Read More

I typically start beginning students with the Alfred music book series. Once they've made sufficient progress, we move into a specific genre or two that they are most interested in. We learn about the style, and why it sounds the way it does. After we have a solid repitoire, students will be ready to perform! Read More

I put a large emphasis both on sight-reading and learning to play by ear; I believe these are the most important two skills any musician can have, whether he be an amateur, professional, or somewhere in between (yes, there's an in-between!). I like to focus on whatever a student has coming up for an audition or a solo & ensemble festival. If I can help players have a great experience soloing in public or help them win an audition to play with a great band (and I have a very good track record with my students winning auditions), they'll be more motivated. Every student is assigned music. Beginning students often start in lesson books. I use the Bastien book series for my youngest students, Alfred books for ages 6-11, and Bastien Books for students older. As students grow and become more advanced I also assign solo pieces from other sources to supplement a students progress. I tailor every lesson to fit a students particular strengths and weaknesses and no two lessons are ever the same. For all levels I try to make the lessons fun and interesting. Read More

For Beginners, I usually begin with very rudimentary stick control patterns to get used to how the stick feels in the hands. As the lessons progress, then I will instruct patterns on drumset if wanted. The student can request whatever style of drumming they would like to delve into, anywhere from latin percussion to jazz drumset. I like to keep lessons fun and engaging for students of all skill levels and ages, so along with assignments I will come up with improvised grooves and patterns on the spot Read More
