Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

For instance, learning about counterpoint is the perfect opportunity to include music history to track trends and usage of counterpoint and encourage practical application in the form of composition (also creating the opportunity to learn a little about orchestration). I talk to them about my experience with music, how i became aware at their age how music made me feel and how it made other people feel: happy, sad, excited, feel like dancing etcetera. I ask if they know what I mean. I talk in a low voice unless I get excited about an accomplishment. I try things to make them laugh. I brag about kids to their parents. i encourage them to practice without scolding, I like to say Ive been doing this a long time and I know when my students aren't practicing. Read More

For beginning students I focus on the fundamentals of playing a saxophone: Setting up your instrument, reading music, breath training, and embouchure. Once the student progresses to a bit higher level, we start with rudimentary songs that allow the student to work on playing full songs. For more musically experienced students new to saxophone, I still start with the same foundational training and set up, but have a more rapid approach to having them play full songs in genre's they enjoy. I graduated with a doctoral degree in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from University of Miami and a Master of Music degree from the University of Kentucky in 2011 and have enjoyed a varied and rewarding music career since then.
