I have been a highly effective piano instructor for over forty years. While having taught many pupils to play simply for their own enjoyment and satisfaction, I have to my credit a number of students who have been accepted as music majors at leading conservatories and universities and have embarked on their own performing careers. My students have also won many competitions and scholarships. The most important element in my teaching, however, is instilling a knowledge and love of music. Read More

I love to watch a student fall in love with music. It is very exciting to see the excitement of being able to accomplish a piece of music that they have worked on. I encourage students to find music that they want to learn and to open them up to different styles and history of where the music came from. I come from a classical / jazz background so i am very happy to teach any style that would excite a student. Read More

For beginner students, I often begin with the foundations of the instrument. For drums, we would be practice the rhythmic subdivisions (quarter, eighth, sixteenth notes) and slowly work them into grooves that they can easily start to pick out of their favorite songs. When the fundamentals have been established, we can learn more advanced grooves, dissect songs together, and learn how to improvise and write our own drum parts. My biggest focus as a teacher is to help the student discover the music that they want to learn and make so that they can develop their own unique voice. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I've been teaching piano to students of all ages as my sole profession since 2002. I usually have between 20 and 25 students at a time. I have also earned certification through the Music Teachers National Association through a combination of testing and proofs of competency. I keep up to date professionally through my memberships in Lancaster Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and in my role as the Center Coordinator for the Music Development Program. Most of all though, I've learned from my students, who are always the best teachers. The part I love best about my job is that I get to cater the curriculum to each student individually. Each student can have their own "best assignment". Read More

It depends on the student. Every student has their own pace and I believe in developing a student where they are at. Music is a lifetime to learn and concepts are different for every student. I am very patient when teaching and I will challenge when I feel the student is ready for a certain challenge. Growth is very important to me because it tells me I am doing the job correctly if I can give a student more advanced level material and they are able to perform it properly. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 18 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
