The bulk of my teaching experience comes from my college days where I taught secondary piano lessons to college undergraduates and children. My teaching style and methods were solidified in my graduate studies at Indiana University where I was an Associate Instructor of Piano. During this time, I taught group piano classes to music and non-music majors, private piano lessons to both graduate and undergraduate students, and worked as a counselor/practice coach for three summers at the prestigious piano summer festival Indiana University Piano Academy. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. I grew up playing piano and singing in church and was previously Minister of Music at my former church where I was responsible for singing and playing piano. I have also sung with a band for a short period of time in local venues and performed in a college musical theater production. Read More

For beginning students, the Faber Faber series or the Alfred series are recommended as a core repertoire. A Dozen A Day is recommended for daily warm-ups and I also provide the students with supplementary songs and books of their choice, such as Disney, pop, jazz and popular classical pieces transcribed for beginner piano. For adult students, I use the Faber Faber method book that provides an overall comprehensive and fast pace lesson style. Read More

Hey! I'm Dee, your very own virtuoso of the ivories. I've been tinkering on pianos since before I could even talk, and I must say, it's quite the racket! But enough about my humble beginnings - let's focus on what really matters: the music, and the memories we create together. You see, playing the piano isn't just about pressing keys in a particular order; it's about telling stories, evoking emotions, and transporting you to another world, even if only for a moment. My teacing style is what I would call organized relaxed. I create specific goals for each student that are attainable. I continually work to encourage my students to work towards their goals. Seeing the light bulb of comprehension go off for my students is my indicator of a job well done. Read More

As the kid who always had a knack for useless facts, and an insatiable sponge for a brain needing to know how and why the world works- I have always been someone to share a little know how, and I know how to instill these things in an exciting way- whether it be a subject I've spent years filling my head with almost useless facts about things like the weird world of quantum physics, or my silly excitement in important, yet otherwise useless facts that might make ya think. I work very deeply on the intersections between Neurology, Psychology, Music Pedagogy and Physical Theater. I believe the body learns best when allowed to perceive the information from multiple angles, with exercises that allow you to experience and feel things as often as you normally have to understand them. At Indiana University I was for five years the teacher responsoble for all Neurodiverse students (Autism, Blindness, Deafness, ADHD, ODD, DCD and Dyspraxia, and more). Read More
