My approach is both traditional and also contemporary.. I use standard method books that have been around for years. I don't like to generalize on one or two methods. I cater the lessons to the individual student. Some may have a wide musical background. Some may not have any. Sight reading and method books are a must.  From there I introduce gradually more difficult pieces from the classical, romantic and modern repertoire.  For adults and young adults I start with Alfred Adult Piano Basics and teach from the first and second method book.  After that I proceed in a similar way as I do with the very young students.  I try to understand each student’s personality and interest and make the lesson informative, inspiring and fun and add occasional popular and familiar popular pieces based on the desires of the student. In each flute lesson, I typically begin with a bow as respect for myself and the student. We typically start with tonalization warmup from Suzuki Book 1. The student listens and produces the best sound they can make after listening to me. My goal as a teacher is to help them become their own teacher and evaluate the things they can improve upon. Additionally, each piece in the Suzuki Books, the piece has something to review and teaches a new concept which I really like as well. Read More
