Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. From beginner to advanced, I believe in the classic's like " Ted Reed's Syncopation ", " Stick Control " " The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary As Taught by Alan Dawson ". I believe the best tool is MUSIC. Playing along with music or musicians will ultimately help the most. But fundamentals are a must. I have been a musician for several decades and have had the fortune to do take music lessons from many teachers. What I have found most important to me, was to have a teacher who able to take where I was at skill wise and go from there. Im a huge advocate of practicing but Im not a fan of assigning tedious exercises that a student cannot relate to. The most important aspect of developing mastery of anything is enjoying what you're doing and different people enjoy different styles of teaching. I tailor my tactics to the student while providing pragmatic and innovative direction for development. I prefer to use the song as the template for development. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with CAGED System. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance looking into different genres such as RnB, Blues, Rock, Pop, Jazz. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. 5 minutes of warm up, 25 of theory, 20 of repertoire and 5 of talking about the next class.
