2004 "The Seeker," an album of my orchestral music won the Just Plain Folks Best Instrumental Album Award. Student awards in performance and composition from Bainbridge Music & Arts, Washington State Music Teachers Association, and Music Teachers Association of California.
I am a pianist and composer. I write and perform music for solo piano, instrumental ensemble, voice and choir, and orchestra, and have recorded seven CD albums of my work. One of the highlights of my life was recording "The Seeker," 44 minutes of music for orchestra, at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. "The Seeker" is the recipient of the Just Plain Folks Best Instrumental Award. I also teach Connect & Glow Meditations, leading guided visualizations with keyboard music which lead to deep relaxation, healing, and connection.
I have taught privately since 1990. The music setting provides a rewarding, dynamic and fun experience to develop valuable learning experiences and meaningful relationships. I teach other teachers how to teach composition and creativity, and am an evaluator for the Music Teachers of California Composers Today program. I direct "Create Your Own Musical!" workshops for children where we write and perform dialogue, lyrics, music and choreography for a short musical. I also offer "Let's Create Music!" workshops for non-musicians in a variety of settings; participants learn about the basics of creating music by writing a short piece of together.
Along with teaching traditional repertoire I specialize in teaching creativity and composition to all of my students - they get the full benefits of a traditional music education plus a thorough and extensive immersion in the language of music through creating music and performing their creations. Students learn scales, chord progressions and arpeggios and create and play music in all of the major keys, utilizing my book, “Playing and Composing Around the Circle of Fifths.” Classical repertoire is emphasized, with some jazzy and boogie-type pieces included. I encourage students to bring music of interest - please ask me about playing music of any style!
I welcome children and adult students of all levels and abilities. My goal as a teacher is to support the unique spark in each individual while helping to develop his or her knowledge and enhancing their appreciation of music. I support students developing skill and expression with patience, humor and warmth. Areas of focus are performance (learning and polishing pieces), technique (developing finger control and agility), and music theory (the language of music) through creative work (improvisation and composition, including notation).
My daughter is very satisfied with her lessons. This teacher is very skillful teaching young adults.
Very patient, professional and quite clear on drill and practice instructions.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
