My teaching began simply by teaching fellow classmates in my school years but at the end of high school i quickly began to branch out to other students. By 19 i had about 20 students from the age of 5 all the way to age 45, from beginner to advanced levels. My Goal is to create a fun, and safe lesson environment where my students feel motivated to cultivate and grow their love and understanding of music, theory, technique, and performance skills. I began studying music performance in university in 2006, under the tutelage of Dr. Sara Gill. Dr. Gill had just returned from an amazing study abroad with Trevor Wye and his studio, and was able to offer cutting edge techniques. After my first year of University Dr. Gill moved, and I was subsequently passed to the instruction of the amazing Dr. Naomi Seidman. I studied under Dr. Seidman for the next 4 years of my education, and performed every semester in both the Concert ensembles and the Flute Choir at the music school. Read More

I also developed, planned, and executed live performances and recitals. Read More

I strongly believe referencing pop and youth culture can help build techniques that are clear and understandable to my students. In my experience, but is no surprise, I've seen that children learn in different ways. Flexibility within ones teaching style is necessary to help develop the young singer. I encourage creativity, understanding and fun. Music and singing is a creative outlet and should be fun, and if the student is having fun and understanding what is happening, then their passion for it will grow. Read More

For beginner students who are children, I start with Bastien Piano Basics. Once the students understand the music concepts properly, at the late beginner level I transition them to Nancy and Randall Faber's Piano Adventures. In my experience, this method provides a wider range of repertoire that the children are familiar with and enjoy practicing! Read More

Method or style technique used will always depend on the preference and requirements of the student. It will also depend on the style of music. For example, classical guitar requires perfection of technique for good execution. This requires practice of scales, arpeggios and such. However, if the student is older and just wants to be able to strum a few chords then that requires a different approach where we focus on simple technique and work on things like rhythm or posture etc. Read More
