My teaching style is very patient and encouraging and I can tailor my lesson plans to suit each individual student. Although building technique and comfort are extremely important, I find that the most essential aspect of learning an instrument is to study the music that you love, and I'm definitely open to adding a bit of musical theory to every lesson if the student is interested. While the student is learning the basics, I also add pieces in different genres to the student's repertoire so that he or she can develop early familiarity with a variety of styles. Read More

In the early years of my teaching profession I taught in various small Texas school districts. I taught in Houston ISD for over 25 years. I have taught PK fifth grade students throughout my career. I initiated a piano lab at my last school for second grade students. I employed creativity and fun in my mission to expose my students to the use of various percussion instruments. While I have taught violin lessons since 2010, my most recent passion for teaching occurred when I became an Adjunct Professor of Violin at New York University from 2016-2018. I held this position for two years while I was simultaneously completing my Masters degree, and maintained a studio of 10 students each semester. While at NYU, I taught a variety of students, from complete beginners to advanced violin players. With my wind instrument and percussion students, I like to start with a method book. My favorites include Essential Elements and Standard of Excellence. I find that, especially for younger students, this is a great way to introduce beginner theory while learning to apply it to their playing. I also make it a point to observe how they learn and what is successful for them along with what doesn't work so well. I use educational tools such as videos and games to also teach, especially for the younger ones. This makes them enjoy the lesson more I've found.
