I took on my first student my junior year of college, and have taught students on and off since. I've taught guitar, ukulele, violin, and voice, but piano is what most of my students pursue. I do my best to make sure students are enjoying the instrument that they are handling, because if they don't enjoy it, why should they continue? For beginning students I tend to start with them learning the basic elements of the instruments and go over exercises that help familiarize them with the instrument. I then will start the student in the Hal Leonard's Essential ELements of books. After they have gained a grasp of the fundamentals I will start to focus more on the type of music they will learn. At the encouragement of my parents I tried out for the jazz band in high school my junior year and continued playing in the jazz band throught the remainder of my high school years and throughout my college years. My senior year in high school is the year that I began taking a course in classical guitar at the local junior college.
