I enjoy teaching because I can always see how my methods really get through to my students. One of my strengths is finding the tools and key steps to success for my students by finding common styles and genres to make learning fun and worth practicing later. I listen to what my students want and I use it to teach what inspires them. I show them how with taking small steps, you can learn your instrument the proper way and achieve whatever goals you want. For younger beginners I tend to use Hal Leonard's Guitar Method series to build a foundation of basic knowledge and fundamental techniques. From there I tend to focus on a custom lesson plan entailing a combination of music/exercises I believe the student will benefit from and enjoy coupled with whatever the student them self wishes to learn whether it's a genre of music, a specific song or something else. I'm a very laid back teacher and I do my absolute best in making my students feel comfortable and also have fun while in the process of learning the art of music. I will give the students the tools they need to learn their instrument or instruments. I expect them to use the tools that were taught and practice at least thirty minutes per day and at least five days per week. Read More

As a student, I would dread the idea of a boring practice, therefore as a teacher, I do all I can to make lessons engaging and useful. I believe that music should be approached holistically and with an open mind rather than trying to force one method to work for everyone, so I strive to tailor my methods according to the needs of each of my students. With that in mind, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for young students, and our lessons will consist of playing from the book, as well as working on crucial skills like ear training and improvisation. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace and is learning things that interest them on a fundamental level. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

I began teaching just over ten years ago at a music school and instrument retailer called The Music Place, where I worked for two years and had many long term students. It was a great experience but I left because the commute became too far so I decided to begin home lessons instead. This turned out to be a wonderful turn of events because home lessons can be much more open and relaxing since were not stuck in a little cube room half-way filled with a piano. Read More
