I have been playing and practicing the drum set consistently since I began in my early adolescence. Over the past decade, I have performed with dozens of ensembles of varying styles from jazz orchestras to rock outfits to more off-kilter projects. I have also joined many profession groups on regional tours, as well asdtracked in studios as a session musician. In 2019, I graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor degree in Audio Engineering and Music, studying the other half of music that people often find confusing. Read More

I love the learning process and to see students progress through the stages of learning an instrument. I taught myself to play the piano before I started formal lessons. I began playing the saxophone at the same time I took up the piano. I entered my undergraduate program in 1992, majoring in music education with the saxophone and piano as my principle instruments. During my studies at the University of South Alabama, a new program was started in MIDI and I attended an extra year to master digital audio. Read More

I am new to the guitar teaching game, but I will provide an effective and fun lesson plan. I have had various guitar teachers in my earlier days and have a very good understanding of what works for teaching students guitar. If you give me the opportunity, I will prove that I am probably better than most of the teachers with years of experience. I started playing music on trumpet and had many achievements on that, but fell in love with the guitar and am extremely passionate about passing on my knowledge of music and the guitar to students who want to learn. I work with one of three methods books: Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, or the Berklee Guitar Method. I gauge this based on the age, skill level, and their time available to practice. Mel Bay is the easiest method to begin, whereas Berklee is more advanced and moves at a faster pace. Sometimes I slow Berklee down and combine it with Mel Bay as a teaching strategy (Mel Berklee, perhaps?). I also am not afraid to use alternative teaching methodologies or notational systems, such as tablature and internet resources, as I think these are vital materials that are relevant to how people interact with, consume, share, and learn music today. As a beginner, nothing is more satisfying than being able to play recognizable tunes as soon as possible. I typically lay out apatterned tier of simple and well knownmusical phrasesfor a student to gain initial confidence with while introducing basic performance principles. Once the the fundamentals of playingare beginning to click, we will start to customize our approach based on the student's particular goals. Not to worry, many students have a loose idea of what they are striving for at first and their curriculum develops naturally as they master certain skills and knowledge. Read More

Going from singing for fun, to performing professionally, to music therapy has only intensified my passion for helping others. Teaching others is such a unique experience, especially when when it involves music. I believe teaching is at its best when the teacher her/himself discovers something new as well. I always include a strong understanding of vocal padagogy; vocal health; piano pedagogy; Classical, pop, musical theatre; stage performance; basic music theory and solfedge. Read More
