I’m enthusiastic about teaching children all aspects of music, including music history and appreciation, movement, and theory. I hope to help students develop listening and sight singing skills, as well as improving their technique. My teaching style is focused and active. I appeal to students’ learning modalities by varying my approach; visual demonstrations, listening activities, dancing, and drawing combine to enhance student understanding. Students are encouraged to join ensembles and seek performance venues. Read More

Music has been a huge part of my life since birth. Both of my grandmothers were musicians, one a pianist, and the other an opera singer. My siblings and I all started learning an instrument at young ages, mine being flute. I later started learning guitar. Eventually I started performing and touring solo and with full bands and recording in professional recording studios. Throughout my adult years, I've been teaching multiple instruments (guitar, voice, bass, ukulele, and flute) both privately and in group settings. Read More

I am a versatile musician who has experience in all kinds of music and performance situations. In 2017, I graduated from Duquesne University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Technology, while also extensively studying classical and jazz saxophone. Currently, I am preparing to graduate with my Master in Music Performance with a jazz concentration from Duquesne University, and have served as graduate assistant to the jazz department during my graduate studies. As I have taught many students on many different instruments, my focus has been on providing students with a firm foundation, including proper posture, breathing, embouchure, technique, and pitch/rhythm literacy. I have found great success in using the Essential Elements method books, and eventually move on to intermediate and advanced methods, focusing on etudes, scale studies, and solo repertoire. Beyond a traditionally classical approach, I believe strongly in listening to my students to realize what they desire to learn. Read More

I have my students record how long they practice each day to see if they meet the required goal of practicing 15mins-30 minutes for a beginner student every day, to up to an hour of practice for more advanced students. If they achieve the goal of practicing from 5-7 times a week, they will be rewarded in some way to show that I appreciate their hard work with candy/stickers. Read More

I believe it is important for any teacher to be patient and compassionate. Every student is different in their abilities and learning processes. So I remain flexible in trying new ways to keep students engaged and not be distracted if certain techniques become difficult. Unlike a course where you receive a grade, lessons are like coaching sessions. Similar to coaching sports, consistent workouts and drills help build the foundation to perform. Read More

I find that I am at my happiest when I am instructing people in one of my greatest loves, music. In 2018, I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of the Arts in Music, my emphasis being the saxophone. I have performed with numerous ensembles and one of the greatest rewards I get from playing is seeing the joy that it brings to others. During my four years at Ohio, I was able to play with the community symphony and it was there that I was able to see what music does for people in bringing them together and creating a strong sense of community, understanding, and joy.
