From 2002 to present I have taught private lessons and ensembles here at Filedheacht Music School [East Bridgewater, MA] which I own and operate. I have taught throughout my career as time and schedule have permitted since 1983. My teaching experience began as community outreach & engagement with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra's "Crescendo" program. I ran group clarinet lessons and performed in Boston Public Schools. I entered a similar relationship with teaching when I relocated to Chicago in 2016 to play with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Upon my return to Boston, I began teaching privately and joined the faculty of the North End Music & Performing Arts Center where I am a Woodwind Teaching Artist for the Eliot Band Program, as well as teach private lessons. I do not have a set typical method I use for all my students because everyone is different. I begin with assessing a new student to find what their goals are and their commitment level is. All of my students find their lessons to be challenging, but my goal is to also provide them with a nurturing and creative atmoshpere. For beginners, I put a strong emphasis on the fundamentals of music, such as getting to know the staff, time signatures, how to construct a major scale, etc. I will also introduce the student to intervals, which are the basic building blocks of western music. The student will also begin basic ear training, by learning to recognize certain intervals by ear, and also learning to sing and play on their instrument when given a reference pitch. Read More

Each student is unique. They require their own method and pace of training. My hope is to help the student reach their goals while still enjoying their time practicing for it. The routine that works best for the student will prove itself over time depending on the student. It may be to work one way for one student but not so much for another student. Practice does get tiresome and so I like to provide many different ways to practice that will help keep sessions more engaged and eager to challenge ourselves. Read More
