My entire life, I have been dedicated to the study of music. From my early childhood education to present day gigs and songwriting, music has always been a centerpiece of my life. I have performed all around the world and am incredibly grateful for the learning experiences I have been blessed with. I also lead and write music for my own band. I attended Mount Hood Community College and Portland State University where I graduated with a B.S. in biology and in jazz studies. When it comes to beginning band students, I will typically use the Standards of Excellence book. But, depending on the students and their abilities, I will try Essential Elements, as well. For piano students, I will use Bastien Piano Basics, Fabor Piano Adventures or Alfred's Basic Piano, depending on the age group. After the students start to understand the foundation and fundamentals of their instrument, then I will find a piece of music for them to learn as a soloist. Read More
