Music is all around us, and I love the process of understanding, creating and sharing my passion with my students! I have been playing clarinet for over 20 years and teaching private lessons for over 10! I love helping my students improve and become better players and grow appreciation for music. I have a lot of experience preparing students for NYSSMA, All County and All Eastern festivals. My students range from beginners to advanced! Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument, focussing on right posture, grip and sound. For intermediate students there is more freedom. If there is a good understanding of how the fundamentals work, the student can share her / his preference with me. Since I teach all genres, there is a very broad palette to discuss. Whenever I have a good feeling with the student's preference, I'll come up with a system so we can start working on new material. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
I've been teaching since the end of high school, when my saxophone teachers enlisted me to help give lessons to some of the younger students in their own after school jazz programs. Since moving to New York I've taught lessons privately from my home studio and traveling to students homes, as well as teaching group lessons in several after-school programs in the Bronx. There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of teaching music, and I get a special joy from seeing my students grow and progress. Read More

For most students, I like to start fresh with an elementary method, usually Rubank or Langenus. I work through those two methods primarily and supplement them with etudes by Hite (Melodious and Progressive Studies) or Rose (40 Studies or 32 Etudes). I like to use Opperman's Velocity Studies and Baermann Third Division for scales/technique supplements and I also select pieces from the standard clarinet repertoire to tie everything together. Once students reach a certain level, I also like to implement the study of orchestral excerpts. Read More

I always begin a lesson with having the student play a song/piece of their choice, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their own skin and in the lesson space. For wind instruments, long tones and scales will occur at the beginning of the lesson, and will be followed by study of an etude and/or piece of repertoire. I will ask the student to sing through the piece, so that the student can make a connection with their own voice and with the music, followed by the student reading through the piece with their instrument. I've worked in many different fields around music education, enabling me to have a broad range of experiences and an ability to adapt to any situation. As a music instructor, I've taught 1-on-1 private lessons, and I've also worked at several summer camps including the Florida State University Jazz Camp, where I was the musical assistant to professor Bill Kennedy, and at Long Lake Camp For The Arts, where I served as the head of the music department.
