Every student is an individual and learns differently, so I strive to develop exercises and practice approaches that work for the particular student I'm working with. I always try to mix compliments and constructive criticism in my teaching. I encourage my students to record themselves throughout the week so that I can give feedback between lessons. Hello! I'm a life-long cellist with solo, ensemble, and orchestral experience. I graduated from Indiana University in 2007 with majors in cello performance and journalism. Over the course of my musical career, I have performed with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, the All-Northwest Orchestra, the Interlochen World Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Indiana University Orchestra, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, and the Denver Philharmonic. One of my favorite parts about teaching is that oftentimes I learn just as much as the student in the teaching process. For beginner students, I start by working through Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book one for cello. After completing this book of fundamentals, I have the student work through Suzuki books 1-5.
