I have amassed a catalog of handwritten materials over the years, as well as some books and exercises from my old teacher. There are a few exercises from the essential elements book that I like to use with beginners, but not enough to warrant purchasing the book. I provide photocopies of all the lessons, as well as supplemental videos in some cases. I use videos or audio recordings to supplement my lessons to help the student practice during the week when i'm not around. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to my high school years, as I began teaching guitar lessons part time about 8 years ago. Since them I have held studios in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Ohio including Double Bass, Bass Guitar, Guitar, and Horn. During my Bachelors degree I had the opportunity to student teach at Red Land High School and Middle School where I ran a concert band and taught private lessons on all instruments. Read More

I have great joy in seeing my students succeed! When you succeed, I succeed. Together we are a team! I will correct you on the spot when there is an error, so you don't keep doing an incorrect guitar hand gesture. Skills my students learn with me include sight-reading, discovering new genres and improvisation. The sky is the limit! I will work on your songs (orginal or covers) with you to develop your skills. For absolute beginners, we usually start with one of the Hal Leonard method books. For piano students, I like the Piano Adventures series. Each instrument has a different number of books in the Hal Leonard series, but we always aim to finish one full book before moving on to other things. For example with banjo, we usually start out with bluegrass and then can venture into other styles such as clawhammer. Read More

My teaching style is based on each student's needs. Some students like to learn at a fast pace and others like to go slower. I listen carefully and ask questions, basing instruction on what creates success. My approach is to make learning fun. I bring markers and stickers and other visual aids to create a unique learning process. I like to use games and sayings to help remember things, many of which I've developed over the years. Read More

I have always enjoyed teaching others. Even in high school, I consistently helped my peers with their learning and enjoyed helping them learn how to play percussion instruments. After starting college in 2009, I began formally teaching percussion privately and in groups at high schools in my area. I have since expanded to teaching guitar, bass guitar, and composition, incorporating compositional elements into all of my lessons. I have found that encouraging students to explore music through composing original material helps them in every other facet of learning music. Read More
