I have taught in one-on-one lessons, large group rehearsals, and everywhere in between. I started my teaching with a group of peers and professors while studying my undergraduate Music Education degree. We worked as a group to teach children ages six through 16 how to play violin/cello and perform as group. We then held a large concert as well as performed with the Sacramento Philharmonic at a Link Up concert. Read More

Guitar-From playing melodies, fingerpicking, strumming chords, reading music, and tuning your instrument- your instructor will guide you step by step. Students use the Hal Leonard method book to start, which is a great book for introducing basic guitar techniques and methods. As the student advances more materials and techniques will be supplied to the student, or continue using the method books. Styles taught are rock, blues, metal, folk, classical, jazz, country and everything in-between. Read More

I have studied piano privately for almost 10 years. My first experience teaching piano was in high-school, when I taught after school lessons. Since then I've had the opportunity to absorb the teaching methods of many excellent instructors. My teaching approach continues to be influenced by these teachers. For example, I have found that my classical training has helped me approach all genres and styles of music. As I continue to teach and learn in different musical territories, I constantly return to the fundamentals. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for music! Its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals at each lesson and by pointing out and acknowledging growth and success that each student has. By engaging in what inspires a student I tailor my instruction to their interests and needs. Read More

For younger students and those just starting out, I will usually start with a basic introduction to their instrument, get them acquainted with it and how to properly play the instrument before moving on to basic scales and beginner songs. As for more experienced and older students, I try to figure out what their goals are as a musician and guide the instruction based on those goals and ensuring that things remain engaging as well as educational. My Philosophy is "learn how the student best learns". Expose all the students to note reading, ear training, youtube, music theory, improvisation techniques, composition, fingerstyle patterns, tablature, and singing, and then create a program that maximizes their potential and their long term feeling that music is fun and worth doing.
