In my studio, I encourage students to look solely at their own track. Everyone's journey is different. We all start lessons at a different age, have different strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes! I welcome my students to share what they love...and hate... so I can tailor our time together to fit their specific learning styles. My teaching philosophy includes asking questions and planning activities that enhance cognitive function. I want to give my students the tools they need so they can look at a piece of music and say, "I know how to practice this," or "I can play this." I start each student with the Frances Clark Series. This is terrific in introducing all musical components to the learner. It starts off right away using ALL the notes on the piano. Black notes are used exclusively in some repertoire. Each building block is built upon the next and it just nicely adds , in a non-threatening way to what the student has learned before. I’m a performer as well as a teacher. I’ve been on tour with operas, and I have led choirs and instrumental ensembles. I’ve been teaching private lessons for 30 years, since I was in college.
