I love seeing the student become interested in the violin. Each student is different and I try to understand each by asking questions and answering questions that they may have. I try to make each as comfortable as possible while playing the violin. I also try to convey my fascination and love of the instrument by performing my best for them during lessons. I have been playing violin since I was 7, and viola since high school. My favorite part of music has always been the connection with others, and I still often play with others, either in chamber ensembles, sight-reading, or as part of an orchestra. I was a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony in high school, was part of my college orchestra in college, and was a member of the San Francisco Civic Symphony from fall of 2013 to mid-2016. I always make sure my students and their parents have realistic expectations when they start taking music lessons. For instance, violin is a difficult instrument to play and it can take months of practice to play a simple tune. However, it can be fun and enjoyable as long as it is understood that these simple accomplishments in playing the violin are in fact rather big ones. For the Advanced Beginner to Intermediate students (both adults and children) I use a mix of the higher level of all series listed above and a series of pieces that will challenge my students to explore their musicality, expression, awareness, and technical skills.
