I am a very passionate teacher who gets excited while relaying information to motivated students.  I also like to engage students by having them consider anything they may wish to learn to do in addition to the normal fundamental method.  Along with this, the student is to write down a goal, then we'll start tracking progress toward that goal by documenting the progress.  I like to do this as a way to allow the student to take ownership of his or her's personal progress. As an instructor, my job is to give the student every opportunity possible to discover their passion for music. The first lesson is always about providing a safe relaxed tone and finding out where that student's progress is. Not establishing an accurate assessment of their progress can be very destructive because it could cause me to come off as either too demanding or condescending. I will teach you and or your child based on the experience level. The more experienced my students are, the more I can discuss concepts of playing. After all, anyone can play exercises and music. But how we approach playing them is what makes us better. My methods vary between each student. For beginning students, that are not learning in a school setting, I typlically start with Hal Lenard's Essential Elements For Band. Once the student had progressed, I will start to introduce solo repetoire that the student will be instested in, which could be pop tunes or other type of music.
