When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student improve on their instrument. In order to see this growth, a realistic plan of action needs to be employed. I begin by assessing each student's level, as well as their needs and desires, and then form a plan of action to address those needs. If the student has deficiencies in a specific area I usually try to tackle this first, especially if it affects their overall ability to make a good sound, articulate efficiently, or play with ease.
