I typically start woodwind students with the Standard of Excellence Comprehensive Band Method series. I like to use the Faber Piano Adventures Series or the Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course for piano instruction. In addition to the method book, I like to incorporate physical/breathing exercises, supplemental warm-ups, sight-reading, music theory worksheets, and student selected repertoire in lessons. I also encourage students to create their own compositions. I have taught privately now for over a decade, as well as in classrooms and given masterclasses to all ages. I worked with pre-K through to the collegiate level in Philadelphia. I also work in communities, bridging gaps geographically and ideologically through musical experiences. I have taught in the United States, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. To allow that to develop, I set realistic goals for my students so they can get feelings of accomplishment which will inspire them to learn more. Every student progresses at their own pace, so setting realistic goals is necessary so the student doesn't feel stuck or overwhelmed.
