I began teaching private lessons eight years ago during college. By the end of 2015 I had a studio of over 30 students. I tend to focus on developing a student's sound concept first, so that they can get a beautiful sound out of the instrument at an early age. I also encourage students to play ear-training games and develop an independent melodic sensibility early on. My teaching includes all aspects of music; Musical theory, sight singing, as well as Music History. My teaching style allows the child to have fun while they learn their instrument, but I emphasize a strong practice regiment. Your child will understand that while learning music and an instrument can be fun, there will be some work involved if they want to become great. I started teaching music in college through my babysitting network. When the mothers and fathers of the children I cared for found out that I played piano and woodwinds, many of them asked if I would also give their kids private lessons. Having a knack with kids and with music, my music teaching practice quickly blossomed in that small town. I have found that while it's important to keep kids sharp in their ability to read music on the page, it is at least as important to engage their creativity off the page. Read More

New York-based musician Daniel Jamieson grew up in Toronto, Canada. He currently works as a free-lance composer, conductor, woodwind specialist, and educator. Daniel's writing commissions span a variety of styles including jazz, pop, and musical theatre. He leads a 10 piece jazz ensemble, the Daniel Jamieson Tentet and his own big band, the Danjam Orchestra. Daniels acclaimed 2011 debut release, SUDDEN APPEARANCE, places him at the forefront of the current crop of young big band leaders.The project was produced by Jim McNeely and featured John Riley on drums.
