For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. My musical experiences started at church in the 80's when I discovered that I could sing really high notes imitating Christian artists like Sandy Patty and the late puertorican soprano Yolanda Vadiz. Those experiences motivated me to consider studying music seriously not just like another hobby. I started studying voice techniques at the age of 20 at the Sacred Music Institute in the Methodist Church in Hato Rey, PR.
