My lessons are fun, yet effective and can be tailored to meet your needs. I look forward to working with you!

Astrid H

Instruments:

My background is in musical theater and I have sung, acted and danced my way around the world. I love what I do and love to share this passion with my students. I get the greatest joy out of helping my students connect with their own voices, gain confidence and see them grow as a person and as artists. I also teach beginners piano, because for me the piano is the perfect way to introduce children to music and give them a basic map of what music can be. It is also the perfect instrument for singers to accompany themselves and I specialize in teaching a very simple way of accomplishing that very easily and quickly.

Joshua P

Instruments:

Joshua was born in the town of Hebron, Ohio and graduated from a small rural high school.  Joshua first found his love for music with the help of his high school band director Mr. Scott Coffey, a graduate of Ohio University. From the 7th grade until high school graduation, Joshua studied saxophone privately with Mr. Coffey, and held the highest position in the high school symphonic band. He was a part of many honor bands around Ohio including two years of Ohio University honor Band, two years of District Honor Band, and Capital University Honor Reading Band. He participated in marching band for all four years of high school and for two years at Ohio University with the Marching 110. In high school he arranged music for the marching band to play. After high school graduation in 2009 Joshua attended Ohio University, studying Music Composition privately with Dr. Mark Phillips and Music Production at Ohio University Scripps College of Communication. Josh was a part of a variety of projects during his four years. One of the first major projects was being the music director for the musical “Rent” for the Los Flamingo Company, and he spent much of his time training vocalist and organizing the orchestra pit. With Dr. Mark Phillips and Professor Andre Gribou, a film composer, Joshua began studying film music. He composed for countless films for the HTC Ohio University Program and for graduate student films, and also wrote the full score for an 88 minute film. The main focus of his music composing was in Midi composing and sample music, and while in college he maintained many sound libraries from Sweetwater Music and learned to perfect sample library composing. The study of Music Production came very easy for Joshua and he enjoyed learning how to use many Digital Audio Workstation’s (DAW’s), as well as recording artists, finding talent, and learning the art of mastering albums. Josh had the opportunity to work at Ohio University School of Music as their sound engineer from 2009-2012, in charge of recording, mixing, and mastering the concerts for school records and educational use. Outside of working for the School of Music, Joshua also got to record countless bands and watch professors recording artists professionally in the Radio Television Recording Studio.  As a recent graduate of Ohio University, Joshua has moved to Los Angeles California in pursuit of a film music and sound engineering career.

More Information About Piano Lessons

Most students start out with a keyboard or digital piano. We recommend a full size keyboard with 88 weighted keys - weighted keyboards will have a touch response similar to a real piano. However, if purchasing a real piano is in your budget, we think that a real acoustic piano will provide you and the student with the highest level of satisfaction during practice time.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons in your home - a smart and simple solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's piano lessons may include, but are not limited to: learning the notes of the piano, how to read music and play piano chord charts, how to play piano by ear, music theory, musicianship skills, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the piano!
The piano is an easy instrument for beginners of all ages. We have adults who are total novices, some who haven't played their instrument in 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. Our teachers have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
Our recommended starting age for piano is 4 or 5, with students capable of playing the keys properly and with sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. Young students also should have begun learning to count and to read. No matter what the age may be, the piano is an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of music, including music theory and basic composition techniques.
