for beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard books. This communicates the basics of the instrument very well. I also incorporate scales and chords. After the student develops his or her reading, kinesthetic, technique, and ear I give them a standard classical piece. For Adults, I evaluate their level and goals at the lesson. I develop their scales, chords, arpeggios, reading, kinesthetic memory, theory, and performance aspects. Read More

My philosophy lies in structure - such as teaching in appropriate amounts that are challenging, but not overwhelming. I will always ask students what they're interested in learning and work that into the lesson. But the main focus for beginners is to be comfortable with the fretboard and to have fun. I break lessons down into technique, theory, and whatever the student is particularly wanting to learn.
