I typically start out with scales for beginner students. I use the Moyse book for long tones and scales, then start teaching repertoire. Repertoire includes, but are not limited to classical music from various time periods to contemporary music such as film scores. I emphasize foundational skills heavily so that students can play repertoires with more ease and precision. Flutist Suzanne Francis received her BA from Kutztown University and a MM from Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. Her principal teachers include Bart Feller, Emily Skala, and Susanna Loewy. She resides in Princeton, NJ performing regularly with the Princeton University ensembles, the Brook Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Voices Chorale, the Bronx Opera Company, and Berks Sinfonietta. For every lesson I develop a lesson plan that organizes the lesson so there is no time wasted. As I get to know the student more, I develop a lesson plan specific to the student and work on the things that need work but as well as to keep the student motivated by performing and memorizing.
