Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I am a passionate, self-motivated, energetic music instructor who loves work with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Industry and minored in Music Education. Within those studies, my primary instrument of focus was the trombone, however, along the way, I picked up and worked on different types of instruments, such as the flute, all of the low brass, piano, and my vocal ability. My teaching style is low-pressure but simultaneously focuses on technical ability, and music theory while fostering a unique voice in the student. I feel like students who develop their own voice in their music at an early stage of their education create a stronger passion for music in the long run thus more successful and enthusiastic musicians are made. Whether my student is interested in learning to read music or to play/sing by ear, my aim is to study music that is interesting to the student. I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Next the focus becomes proper grip for mallets/sticks and embouchure placement for winds. Read More

My teaching style is collaborative, I believe in listening to what the student wants to get out of their lessons. During the initial meeting I always ask the student what are their musical goals. From there we develop a plan for the student to achieve those goals. Even though I typically have a plan for each lesson in my mind prior to the lesson, I always ask the student if there is anything specific that has been giving them trouble throughout the week and I make sure that I cover that topic first. I involve the student in the processing of choosing repertoire as well as I strongly believe that if the student likes the music they are more likely to practice and learn the material. Read More

My teaching experience expands over 30 plus years. I begin teaching in Middle School as a Band Director, then a High School Band Director and back to Middle School. I went back to Middle School because, at that time I enjoyed teaching beginners more that advanced players. I have taught on the college level as the Choral Director as well as class piano teacher.
