More Information About Flute Lessons

"While flutes are relatively inexpensive compared to the other woodwinds, Musika suggests renting an instrument for beginng players. As the player becomes more advanced the student can consider purchasing a more advanced model with open-hole keys and a B foot joint. Armstrong and Gemeinhardt are fine for beginners, and Yamaha is great for beginning/intermediate level flutists. For young players who are smaller in size, the student can consider using a curved headjoint (called a ""candy cane"" headjoint) to facilitate playing."
Taking flute lessons in your home offers a great way to master your skills on the instrument without ever leaving your home! Many students and parents find this very convenient as there is no additional time for travel.
During flute lessons the student will learn how to properly care for the instrument. This is is critical to the longevity of an instrument the student decides to buy or rent. From there lessons will focus on correct embouchure formation, developing a good tone in all registers, articulation, fingerings, and basic musicianship.
Flute can be an incredibly rewarding instrument to study as an adult. Of the woodwind instruments it can relatively easy to learn to play and most adults notice progress right away! The flute can be a wonderful instrument to play as a soloist or with fellow musicians.
The flute is a great instrument to begin in elementary school. Young flutists are able to progress quickly and many school programs allow flute players to participate in both band and orchestra. Typically, Musika recommends waiting until age 8 before beginning flute lessons.
