I choose the course of study based on the individual student. Beginners usually start in "Flute 101" or the Blocki Method - Book 1. Really young students start on a small, Nuvo flute, to accommodate size, then graduate to a traditional flute. I have a number of games and projects for young beginners. For beginning students (adult and children) I like to be sure that their knowledge about fundamentals is solid. I believe ear training is paramount. Not everyone can sing, but secure pitch discrimination can help all musicians (even percussionists). I encourage all students to participate in ensembles (band, choral also).
