Circe D. is an award-winning Venezuelan cellist hailing from El Sistema, Venezuelas acclaimed youth music program. She was a student of magnet school New World School of Arts in Florida, studying under David Cole, as well as a cello performance student at the University of Florida graduating both academic programs with honors. Ms. Circe D. also holds a masters degree in Cello Performance from the University of Florida. Ms. Circe D. has performed as a touring featured cellist with The Nuevo Mundo String Quartet, the World Orchestra String Quartet, and as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Aragua and the Whittier Symphony Orchestra, among others. I hold various Principal 'cello positions, co-founded the Polish Music Reference Center at USC with Wanda Wilk, in the 1980's; co-founded Symphony 47 with Floyd Clark and had my New American Quartet for over 18 years, which also toured England, in 1997. I performed many overseas concerts; was Yo Yo Ma's pre-concert lecturer at the Wadsworth in 1994; coached Samuel L. Jackson for his movie role as a 'cello playing cop in 2000, and performed with Herbie Hancock in a World Peace concert in 2008, with my quartet. Read More

My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. My professional orchestra career began in Bulgaria at The National Radio Orchestra and at the same time I was holding the first chair as a principal at New Symphony Orchestra with conductor and music director - Rosen Milanov –presently assistant conductor of Philadelphia Philharmonic.
