My love for teaching began as a peer tutor in college. I tutored students in piano, guitar, bass ear training, and music theory. I began to love teaching when I noticed the change and progress it creates within people. While in college, I taught at a musical theatre camp as a music teacher. I taught music theory, ear training, and vocal music. Right after I graduated college I was accepted into the music education program at Teachers College Columbia University where I received my masters degree in music education along with certification in New York state to teach Pre-K through 12. I have more than 30 years of experience in teaching guitar and bass lessons. I’ve taught many different types of students—young children, senior citizens, and everything in between. I’ve taught and coached students who have just wanted to play a couple of their favorite songs as well as students who were looking for the necessary skills to get into various music programs/ensembles. I honed my music teaching skills by working for several North Jersey schools of music (Village Music in Butler, Bach to Rock Music in Riverdale, and Musician’s Corner in Pompton Plains) from 1988 to 2006. I believe in tailoring music lessons to the individual students needs. This usually involves speaking with the student in the first lesson/lessons to find out what specifically they want to learn or improve. Once I've figured this out, I begin to find repertoire or create exercises that challenge this student in the respective area of focus. With younger students, I prefer to make an executive decision to begin with method books and then ease into more relevant material when the student is comfortable with their instrument. Read More

Seriousness and also keeping fun and interesting. Being serious to understand music is a science, and fun not to let it become tedious. Most music students don’t stick to practicing for the mere reason nobody has ever showed them the right way to practice, practice with the mind and not as a robot, and keeping it interesting and challenging. You need to challenge yourself, put yourself to the edge. Read More

It is my philosophy that every student is unique and therefore it is necessary to adapt lessons for each student. This individualized approach results with a personalized approach in order to accomplish the specific goals of the student. I teach both formalized and personal methods that guarantee results. I am well versed in music theory and various practice techniques. I believe that learning to read music and tabs can be helpful but not essential to learning how to play an instrument. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, and I have been routinely teaching students in my home studio and online for the previous eight years. One of the major elements I want to emphasize for younger students is encouraging frequent practice on a consistent schedule, as it assists the student advance and developing a passion for the instrument. I've also discovered that combining classical and modern music can help pupils appreciate the piano and drive them to practice and learn more. Read More
