I help students set goals for themselves, and guide them to those goals through music I choose and music the students are interested in, which I sometimes let the students choose themselves. I have taught privately for over five years. Starting in college, I taught several students on violin before making piano my primary instrument. Since graduating from college, I have continued with my private studio in additional to expanding my work with local public schools and youth choirs. I have experience coaching students for college auditions and solo ensemble at the local and state level. I have worked with adults, high schools and young kids in ages ranging from six to fifteen years of age. Read More

My beginners generally start with the "All For Strings," and "Strictly Strings" series to obtain the basic elements of violin playing. This curriculum provides students with virtually every phase of beginning through intermediate string study. I introduce solo repertoire that matches the musical interest of each student. I also guide my intermediate students through study of their current Middle School or High School orchestral repertoire. With adults, I endeavor to combine their tastes and interests with musical literature that is fun and sustains interest such as Mazas and Viotti duets. Read More

In my 7 years of teaching I have taught 8 students. My primary focus is practice and the elements that make practice most effective. I believe that there are key basics that any beginner can master to carry them through their journey as a musician. I love teaching about overcoming the fear of notes on the page, as I believe every piece has a story to tell. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with violin method book, Essential Elements for Strings to learn the good basics and reading the notes and where to find those notes they just learned on the fingerboard. I also introduce the Suzuki Violin School volume 1 to learn the major songs written for the violin and simply to play more songs than the scales and exercises. For students who are more advanced, I help them their school orchestra music and make sure they are doing very well on top of the class in addition to continuing with the private lesson music.
