I began teaching when I was a freshman in High School and I continued with a full-time load of students throughout all four years because of how much I loved it! Eventually adding some beginner adult students into my rotation of kids as well! I taught a few college level students throughout my college years whenever I could and took on summer students during my breaks! Now that I am done with college I am very excited to begin teaching students of all ages again and sharing my love and appreciation of music with them. Read More

In the summer of 2022, he served as an artist fellow in the Atlantic Music Festival, giving varied performances in orchestral, chamber and solo settings. To fuse his dedication to performance with his interest in academic research, Tommy also presented a full lecture recital in the recent conference on cultural assimilation in music hosted by the University of Calgary. Furthermore, an equally devoted performer on the euphonium, he has been invited to play with the New England Brass Band and has been performing with the Boston University Wind Ensemble on an assistantship since 2021. I do tend to assign, as mentioned elsewhere, listening homework. I do this because I've seen it help students learn what they want to and need to learn faster as well as help students learn to like, love, or at least appreciate new things. The main point here is that every student is complex, difficult, and hard insomuch as teaching method required, but my passion is so great that I don't see issues or problems but rather new opportunities to get students excited about learning and demonstrating what they've learned. I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week.  You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. To me, nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students' passion for music arise during, and after lessons. For this is the way i believe important progression happens, when the student is passionate about the subject matter and eager to explore and most importantly enjoying it in the process. I always try to set an attainable goal for each lesson, its through these accomplishments that encourages a student to keep progressing and learning more about the instrument and music. Read More

I start by finding the things students like most about their instruments and given style to learn. We then try to pick apart and play based off of that. Certain techniques facilitate practical application. For instance, If a student is getting ready for an audition, there are techniques where the student can learn how to cope with the anxiety. For beginning students who are children, I start with Standard of Excellence by Bruce Pearson. This is a great, simple and streamlined approach to developing instrument technique and music reading skills. In addition to Pearson, I use my own lesson plans and materials which are primarily informed by the H.L. Clarke method. For intermediates and above , I use the H.L. Clarke, James Stamp, and J.B. Arban methods variously. Read More
