I have taught privately since 1981. My playing experiences have been in the Cleveland Ohio are for over 35 years. I have played with the Cleveland Opera in Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar. I have also played with the Lorain County Civic Orchestra, various organizations and venues as a member of the musicians union. I grew up in Gillette Wyoming playing Euphonium and Trombone, also achieving 4 years in the all state band. From there, I went to the University of North Texas, and my world grew so much larger. My pedagogy is based on the American jazz tradition and the teachings of Orff and Kodaly. I like to impart a holistic love of music in my students, without boring them with too much history or theory. However, it is my belief that theory and musical literacy will open doors to a greater level of fulfillment and understanding of music as a whole. I enjoy hearing the students natural abilities, understanding what kind of music pours out of them, acknowledge that, and from there we develop it. At the same time, direct the student with technique, theory and any other tools that will facilitate the music they are passionate about.
