My experience as a teacher started when I was in high school, giving private lessons to local middle school and elementary school students. Ive continued giving private lessons as well as masterclasses, sectional work, and marching band coaching throughout college. Teaching is as much of a calling for me as is playing the trumpet. I have had a fair deal of struggle with the instrument, but I have persevered and have developed a strong knowledge of brass playing, which I hope I can pass on to my students! Read More

I am a highly motivated, hard-working, and outgoing individual. I love people and believe thatteachingmusic lessons is one the best ways to connect with students of all ages and develop a relationship with them. I started learning piano in Kindergarten, began Saxophone in my 5th grade Band, and started tutoring other band students in 6th Grade. In 7th Grade I earned scholarship to attend Illinois Summer Youth Music Camp at the University of Illinois. Read More

For beginning students I teach the fundamentals: holding the instrument, explaining how it works, and then how to make a sound. I focus on sound first and foremost, trying to make a pure sound, and then hearing and being able to understand how the instrument works. I don't get into simply reading exercises until the student has a firm grasp and enthusiasm for the instrument. With older students I work with what their goals are; for example if All-State Band is the goal we focus on playing band excerpts and the level of fundamentals needed to get there. Read More

When I'm working with beginning students, my defaul method book is Essential Elements. However, if students have another book for a school band class, I am more then happy to work with them to preserve some line of consistency in the students education. As they progress, I look to find more advanced etude and solo books, focusing on music that is of interest to the student. Practicing music should be fun, and I try to make it fun, while maintaining an emphasis on fundamentals and musicianship. Read More

Nothing is more satisfying than seeing students passionately pursue and succeed in the musical goals they set for themselves. I encourage students to set smaller, individual goals that can help them reach the larger goals they may have. Each student is unique and all students deserve to learn in the mode or format that is most effective. It is my role to both welcome the uniqueness of each student as well as offer multiple styles from which students can learn. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students' develop a passion for music. I like to let students develop at their own pace. Realistic goals are set, and we work to meet them with each lesson. I love tailoring instruction to students' needs! Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
