My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my in my studio for the last 10 years. I always start by just hearing my students sing. I listen for the breathe that they use, where the voice is placed and the tone of the voice. If they sound as though that they could delve into a different genre as well as the genre they choose, I would give them an option to see if one genre feels just as comforting as the other.
