Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.I would love to give my students opportunities to give recitals in public because that is a way to check themselves of what they actually learned from class and also that will gain their confidence and interests of playing piano in public. Every student is different and what may work for one may not work for another. And every student has their own musical aspirations. Some may be content playing the most simple Christmas tunes. Some may want to play more popular tunes and some may have their hearts set on learning all three movements to the "Moonlight" sonata by Beethoven. While the language of music (the musical alphabet, notation, expressions etc.) will be consistent, how this language is taught can vary from student to student. in the 30 years I've been teaching piano and musicianship skills I've discovered that, to a person, everyone is far more capable than they might assume. Music lessons were one of my favorite activities growing up and continue to be for me as an adult. I want to give my students the same joy that I have for music, regardless of what their goals are. In the first lesson, I ask every new student what their goals area. That is how we start working together.
