Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. While my approach might be considered conservatory oriented, I also believe that music can be approached in a fun, yet serious, manner, allowing beginning students to explore their personal need for musical self expression without compromising the serious effort necessary to achieving a student's musical goals. Quite often this involves using various method books along with creating the right supplemental materials for their level of ability. Along with the learning of classical pieces of progressing levels of difficult which help in the development of technique and a solid musical foundation, my students also explore popular music, jazz and many other style. I have been singing since the age of 10 when she first began performing at some of her father’s piano concerts. Graduating from both Lawrence University and Alverno College, she studied vocal performance, music education, and French. My favorite vocal genres include Broadway, Classical, Pop, Light Opera, and Jazz. For beginning students that are k-12 I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to align with the public school music curriculum. For those 18+ or hoping to learn an instrument outside of school purposes I highly encourage students to pick out their own repertoire to learn however I'm more than happy to help with the process of choosing music. For those with a base line understanding of music we will still read from various methods books and play some standard repertoire but it will not be the focus of lessons. Read More
