I'm a kind and passionate teacher with a love of sharing my knowledge and seeing my students succeed. I attended both Clackamas Community College and Portland State University, both of which have highly respected music programs, but ultimately I left before finishing my degree to go on a national tour with my band Intervision. Honestly though, most of my development has come outside of the educational system, and through my own work and practice. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Piano Adventures by Nancy Faber. I introduce rhythm reading, music composition, and basic music theory in the first year. I focus on effective practice techniques. My students learn the skills of practice routine that build measurable and gratifying progress from week to week. For advanced students and adults, we explore what the students are interested in. I design my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging in fun no matter the ability level. Read More

My students don't just learn how to play songs, they learn why music works through the songs they like. Read More

I tend to assign more, but my point is that it's extremely important to practice! Also, what helped students the most - across the board - was theory workbooks, especially when it came to composition. Getting students interested in composing lends way to their completion rate when it came to homework too! Read More
