Overview:

I am a passionate, experienced, kind, and motivated teaching artist who enjoys helping my students discover and develop their abilities. As a full-time working artist, I have a vibrant national career as a composer, singer, conductor, and producer in early and new classical music. I have given masterclasses at Harvard University, ASU, Wellesley, Kenyon, and many other K-12 schools across the country.  I was fortunate to have had many inspiring and dedicated teachers and mentors in my life, and I'd love to be that person for my students.

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching music for over 12 years, with 2 years of experience as a full-time music teacher at a prestigious K-8 private school, and several years of experience working with college students, graduate students, and adult amateurs in masterclass setting. I believe that everyone is different, and that everyone needs different things from their teacher. I am committed to getting to know my students well, and therefore keeping them happy and motivated throughout the course of study.

METHODS USED

I am a believer of structure AND fun. I typically start students with basic technical work, combined with creative games to keep the skills relevant and interesting. Then I introduce more complicated process and ideas into the mix, while allowing the students to find out their own voices. I can't prescribe one way of teaching to differnet people, therefore I won't until I get to meet that student! :)  An avid lover of dance and yoga, I incorporate lots of movement games, body work, and breathing exercises in my lessons. I am a level-II certified teacher of Orff-Schulwerk, believing in the power of combining words, movement, culture, and sound to create unique musical experiences.

LESSON STYLE

My students describe me as patient, fun, understanding, and challenging. :)  For the shy ones, I like to get to know them, and see what I can do to get through to them and get them to open up to music.   For the adventurous one, I dare them to go on adventures with me.   For the self-critical ones, I become their voice of encouragement and love.   For the over-confident ones, I open their eyes to more challenges that will demand more of themselves.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
