There, I was just an extra pair of ears, but it helped me to focus on my own technique and how to most efficiently play my instrument. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. I have had plenty of experience teaching both privately and in a classroom setting. I began teaching private lessons on the piano and violin in high school, where I mainly had elementary school beginners. In college, I continued to teach private lessons and also had plenty of opportunities to work with students of all different ages and skill levels in a variety of settings. My teaching style is kind, respectful, nurturing, and encouraging while also demanding. My greatest pleasure and joy in teaching is when I see and hear the student make obvious progress. A trust is built, both initially and over time, where the student and teacher understand the balance between fun and serious study.
