I love being able to send students on their way for the day knowing that they put their best foot forward. Even if they did not come to a lesson prepared, being able to see growth in the small amount of time I'm with them is enough for me. Emotion and interpretation are a big part of a student's musicality, and I will focus on that as a student progresses. Experienced in private and group teaching settings for beginner to advanced level string students for ten years. I am currently the Strings instructor at Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC where I offer beginner to advanced classes for violin, viola, and cello. Although I learned to play strings in a classical background, I welcome all musical styles and techniques! My teaching philosophy revolved around the idea that music should be fun and engaging. While many teachers start their students off by learning how to read music, I like to begin with actually playing and familiarizing yourself with the instrument and later translating that information to written music notation. In your first lesson, we will play the instrument and learn a simple tune based on your skill level. I like to take into account the students music preference and learn what specifically they want to get out of private lessons. Read More
