I strongly believe that students should be corrected and made aware of their mistakes when learning music or a new instrument, but I also believe that these corrections and criticisms can be delivered in ways that push students to better themselves, rather than make them doubt their abilities as a musician. I want to see all of my students believe, and thus I will give them all of the encouragement that they need to become the musician I think they can be, and I will make sure that they know that they are fantastic musicians. I am a proud graduate of Central State University where I earned my B.M. in Jazz Studies. I've performed professionally on both Clarinet and Piano. Growing up in the Metro Detroit area, music was everywhere and it gave me a community and the opportunity to cultivate my love of music. Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a love for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals that are realistic and acknowledge when a student has reached a particular goal. This helps the student to become more eager to learn, more willing to spent that time each day practicing.
