In the beginning I like to ask each student what their goal is so that we can work towards that, whether it is to become first chair in band, make All-State, play for Solo Ensemble, perform with their church, or to just have fun and learn a new skill. I typically like to structure my lessons in the following parts: tone production, scales/technique, studies, and repertoire. This structure will vary with each student depending on their proficiency and interests. I believe that a good sound is the very basis of flute playing.
