I am a passionate teacher and performer who loves working with students of all ages. I completed my Bachelor or Music degree at the University of Iowa in Music Education and Flute Performance. I then spent a year student teaching and substitute teaching which taking auditions for a masters program. I am currently enrolled at the University of Georgia in Flute Performance. I am extremely passionate about all things music. I have been playing the flute and piano for 15 years. I graduated from Mercer University in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. I have performed at many musical conventions during my career, including the National Flute Association Convention in 2013 and 2015. I was also recently selected to perform in the NFA Collegiate Flute Choir at the 2016 annual convention. For students of all ages, I like to lead with the quote from Marcel Moyse; "Practicing is a matter a time, patience and intelligent work", for I believe that once this is applied to the idea of practicing and general encounters with ones instrument, then success and progress is guaranteed. Aside from that principle, I like the idea of independent work from students to keep them accountable on the journey to becoming a musician but a more interactive and demonstrative approach during the lesson to give students an idea of what needs to be done while being that good role model so that they may keep motivated work hard at becoming the best possible musicians. My teaching experience started when I was in Highschool , and this has carried on throughout college and after college. I tutored my peers while still learning other instruments simultaneously. I have had the opportunity to teach at a number of elementary, middle and high schools in the atlanta and atlanta metro school districts. For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun.
