I'm an extremely dedicated and passionate performing artist, composer, and instructor with a BM in Jazz Studies from the USC Thornton School of Music. I love all aspects of playing, teaching, and writing music, but my favorite part is sharing my passion with others and watching a similar passion grow in themselves. I have been playing saxophone for about 12 years, flute and clarinet for 7, and drums and piano for the past 3 years (so I can only accept beginning drum and piano students.) Generally speaking I also like to teach music theory and ear training during my lessons so that the students can improve all of their musical skills. This has showed to be crucial especially if they are interested in improvisation and playing contemporary music genres such as jazz / funk / rock / blues. I have worked with students at a variety of levels and will meet the their needs accordingly. I ask my students what their goals are and then build an individualized lesson plan based on their needs. We can work on music for performances or for personal growth. I want to help my students reach their musical goals. I usually teach students out of method books to begin with, and while we work through these I ask the students to help select pieces for fun that they might also want to learn for perfomance. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress and this makes students eager to learn more. I grew up in Indianapolis. While in high school, I studied Classical Clarinet with Achille Rossi of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. My interest at this early stage of my career was and still is in Classical Music. I went on to play with many of the All-City and All-State Orchestras.After high school, my interest in jazz began to blossom. I went on to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where I was a Performance Major and earned my four year professional performance certificate, studying all aspects of jazz: composition, arranging, and performance.
