Before heading off to college and over course of two summers, I had the opportunity to study at the prestigious Berklee Five Week Summer Jazz Performance Program. For the second summer, I auditioned and earned a half-tuition scholarship. After getting my bachelor's degree in music education from University of Maryland, I taught general, band, and strings in Montgomery County in Maryland. Then I taught ukulele, keyboard, drums, guitar, band, and choir in Dayton, Ohio. Now I am excited to teach lessons in Pittsburgh. I graduated from University of Vermont with a double major in Music Theory/Composition and Spanish. I am continuing my studies with a Master's of Arts in Teaching from University of the Arts. I also hold an MA in Spanish language from Middlebury College where I was very active in playing live music for the co-curricular dance program, poetry nights, and studied the intersection of music and linguistics. I like to set goals for my students. I generally work out of lessons books, solo repertoire, and whatever else the student brings in. If the students have music from classes in school, I will also assist them with that. I try to keep the lesson light, and enjoyable! I have been teaching saxophone lessons as well as tutoring music theory for the past 3 years. I am able to work with beginners up to advanced players. Also, I can offer flute lessons for beginners and those who are at an intermediate level. During lessons, I collaborate with the student to find music that interests them or what their personal goals are. I avoid piling high expectations because school already demands a lot from kids.
